Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows

5 June 2018

The CQUniversity Village Festival in partnership with Tourism Events Queensland (TEQ) are proud to announce that Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows will be performing at this year’s festival.

One of Australia’s most enduring touring bands and festival favourite, Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows have built a reputation as a dynamic live act, with a level of accessibility that can appeal to all audiences.

Led by ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Joe Camilleri, the current incarnation of the Black Sorrows includes Claude Carranza (guitar/vocals), Mark Gray (bass/vocals), John McAll (keyboard/vocals), and Angus Burchall (drums).

Festival Board member Jason Pfingst said “Joe was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007 and it’s exciting to continue to attract Australia’s best musicians to the Capricorn Coast.”

“We are committed to inspiring and developing local talent and Joe Camilleri has shown fans and critics alike that he is a performer with an undeniable energy and love of it all, this is a great opportunity for local talent to see and perform alongside one of our nation’s best.”

With an energetic interplay of solid grooves and well-crafted songs, Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows create spontaneous and emotionally driven performances, mixing together well-worn ingredients such as blues, soul, R&B, gospel, country and even Brill Building pop.

Held on the weekend of 10-12 of August, all performances on the Yeppoon main stage, including Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows, will once again be completely FREE and open to the public.

The Queensland Government is proud to support the CQUniversity Village Festival through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program. Queensland, just the place to experience Australia’s best live events.
