Bruce has always enjoyed working with his hands, he has built two mud brick houses for himself and assisted in the building of several others. Since he has retired, he has switched his attention to smaller woodwork projects. He has completed 5 Bespoke furniture making master classes with Geoff Hannah. Two woodcarving classes with Lawrence Otto. Pyrography with Lance Ganter. Still life dead life drawing classes with Easton Dune. Woodturning with Jim Schafer Rockhampton woodworker’s guild.
The new skills Bruce he has learnt, dovetailing, French polishing, Marquetry, relief and chip carving, Woodturning, Drawing, and Pyrography are now an integral part of his art projects.
Whether he is making a 19th century style Biedermeier Mirror using Queensland myrtle and Peruvian Mahogany or a Floating lidded box from Camphor laurel or a bowl form Blackehart Sassafras with bird’s eye features, he says he is on a steep learning curve.
Bruce said that he is amazed at the types of wood that are available and so fare he has used 34 different species of wood.
Bruce exhibits his work in the Emu Park Community Arts Centre Gallery.
