The Wilson Pickers are a five piece folk/country outfit consisting of singer/songwriters Andrew Morris, Sime Nugent, Danny Widdicombe and Ben Salter – each acclaimed solo performers and band leaders – as well as virtuoso multi-instrumentalist John Bedggood.  Together they have released three ARIA nominated albums and performed at nearly every major festival in Australia including The Gympie Muster, Bluesfest and Splendour in the Grass. Their most recent album is You Can’t Catch Fish From A Train.

The Wilson Pickers are a five-piece ensemble consisting of Andrew Morris, Danny Widdicombe, John Bedggood, Sime Nugent and Ben Salter. Each of the five members are acclaimed performers in their own right – Morris has released five solo albums and tours in Bernard Fanning’s band; Nugent has fronted a number of Melbourne ensembles and is a member of duo Sweet Jean; Widdicombe has released a number of solo albums and has performed with Tim Rogers; Salter is an award winning solo artist and founding member of The Gin Club and Giants of Science; and John Bedggood is a sought after instrumentalist who has performed with David Bridie, Kasey Chambers, Shane Nicholson, Bernard Fanning and many others.

Together they perform a blend of folk, country and blues music with bluegrass instrumentation – mandolin, fiddle, banjo, resonator and harmonica – and stirring five part harmonies. Since forming in 2009, they have released three albums – “Land of the Powerful Owl”, “Shake It Down” and last year’s “You Can’t Catch Fish From A Train”. Recorded at Morris’s Church Farm in northern NSW, “…Train” was mixed by Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Powderfinger, Pearl Jam) and features cameos from Bernard Fanning and Rod Coe (Slim Dusty).  All three albums have been nominated for ARIA awards for Best Blues & Roots release, with “…Train” also picking up a Golden Guitar nomination at the 2017 Tamworth Country Music Awards.

The Wilson Pickers have performed at Bluesfest, Gympie Muster, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Moomba and this year are very excited to be joining the line ups of the Splendour in The Grass and Yeppoon Village Festivals.
